IFLA International Marketing Award-2009
I am back from the IFLA Conference in Milan Italy (22-27 August). The 7th IFLA International MArketing Award-2009 was awarded to the Winners by the IFLA Management and Marketing Section and Emerald Group Publishing Ltd. during the Press Conference of the IFLA Congress.
For the 7th IFLA International Marketing Award-2009, altogether 22 applications were received from 16 countries including Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, France, Jamaica, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, United Kingdom and the USA. Three finalists include:
1st Place
National Library Board (NLB), Singapore, represented by Sharon Koh for the winning campaign “Go Library.” The Go Library Project (GLP) comprises major components such as: Go Library and Go Kids physical guides; Go Library Virtual; Go Media. The GLP is a multi-platform project which aims to entice customers to the library.
2nd Place
Wrexham County Borough Council, Wales, United Kingdom, represented by Jane Purdie for the campaign “Happy Days/Take a Fresh Look at Your Library”. The campaign was aimed at existing and potential library users in public libraries and at students in further and higher education institutions.
3rd Place
Alberta Library, Edmonton, Canada represented by Janis Galloway and Bill Rice for the slogan “The Alberta Campaign/Books and Beyond”. The campaign was aimed at breaking stereotypes about libraries (that they are dull places full of books only), engaging, entertaining and enlightening, and telling people the Library and its resources.
I have new responsibility as Chair of the Jury of the Award and I whole heartedly appreciate the efforts made by Dr. Daisy McAdam of University of Geneva (the Former Chair) for the successful 7 years of the Award. Over190 applications have been received from more than 40 countries during these years. The work of Information Coordinator Dr. Christie Koontz of Florida State University, is much appreciated who often talks and write about the Award.
I encourage fellow librarians around the globe to apply for the Award for the year-2010. The first-place winner will receive airfare, lodging, and registration for the 2010 IFLA General Conference and Council at Gothenburg (Sweden) and a cash award of $1,000 (U.S.) to further the marketing efforts of the library. The Second and Third places are honoured by plaques.
Announcement and application material for the Award will soon be made available on the IFLA Website.
